Newton Hill Community School Equality Information and Objectives

The Equality Act 2010 requires us to publish information that demonstrates that we have due regard for the need to:

  • Eliminate unlawful  discrimination, harassment, victimisation  and any other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act 2010
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.

Newton Hill Community School and Nursery is an inclusive school where we focus on the wellbeing and progress of every child and where all members of our community are of equal worth.

We believe that the Equality Act provides a framework to support our commitment to valuing diversity, tackling discrimination, promoting equality and fostering good relationships between people. It also ensures that we continue to tackle issues of disadvantage and underachievement of different groups.

In accordance with The Equality Act 2010 and The Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties) Regulations 2011, our Equality Objectives are:

  • We will aim to ensure that children from all groups and backgrounds continue to make progress at least in line with their peers to meet or exceed national expectations in English and Mathematics.

  • We will promote positive attitudes to differences and good relationships between all people through curriculum opportunities and wider school life. We will teach and model respect of everyone in our school community in the hope that children and parents are tolerant and respectful of all beliefs and life choices.

  • We will have a culture of value and respect of all which will allow children to feel they are supported and able to make their own life choices. Our focus on RSHE will help to teach these important areas and tolerances at age-appropriate stages of their lives.

How are we meeting these aims?

A rigorous assessment system using FFT will be used to analyse data of groups of learners.

Religious dates planner to be implemented across school to ensure diversity within our school and community. We will study a variety religious festivals.
